Yomiuri's Matsui to mull majors after 2002 season
NEAGARI, Japan - Yomiuri Giants outfielder Hideki Matsui, winner of the 2001 Central League batting title, shakes hands with a junior baseball player on Jan. 5 at a town cultural hall in Neagari, Ishikawa Prefecture. Speaking at an annual event held in his hometown, Matsui said he will consider a career in the U.S. major leagues once the 2002 season is finished. Matsui recently signed a one-year contract worth 610 million yen with the Giants, making him the best-paid player in Japanese baseball history.
