Yamato city to introduce 'community money' in April

YOKOHAMA, Japan - Officials of the city of Yamato, Kanagawa Prefecture, demonstrate a ''community money'' transaction Feb. 25, the same day the city began a trial run of the system. A full-scale launch of the system, using cards with built-in integrated circuits, is expected to start from April, with some 90,000 residents, about 40% of the city's population, likely to use it.
