Oki hopes summit will be 'step toward jump' for environment

TOKYO, Japan - Environment Minister Hiroshi Oki hopes the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, will serve as ''a step toward a big jump'' in tackling environmental and development issues. ''I myself think this summit will be a conference to accelerate environmental measures,'' Oki said in a recent interview with Kyodo News ahead of the Aug. 26-Sept. 4 summit.
