Mizuno resigns following Taiwan row
NARITA, Japan - Kenichi Mizuno, Japan's parliamentary secretary for foreign affairs, arrives at Narita airport Aug. 25 to tender his resignation to Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi following a row over his planned visit to Taiwan. Kawaguchi accepted Mizuno's submission at the airport before her departure on a two-week tour of Ethiopia, Angola and South Africa. Mizuno, a 36-year-old House of Representative lawmaker, told reporters that his decision was to protest the ministry's refusal to allow him to visit Taiwan.
