NARITA, Japan - Japanese tourists look relieved on returning to Narita airport Oct. 14 from the Indonesian resort island of Bali. They told of the terror of the explosions that ripped through nightclubs and killed at least 188 people Aug. 12. ''There were charred bodies scattered there,'' said one Japanese tourist after a flight home from Bali.

        NAGASAKI, Japan - A woman in the city of Nagasaki has donated a wall clock (in photo) that stopped at the moment of the U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki at around 11:02 a.m. on Aug. 9, 1945, to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, museum officials said on Oct. 12. The clock, which has almost no scratches or cracks, was in her home at the time of the explosion. The home was located some 5 kilometers from the center of the blast.

              U.S. aircraft carrier invites public aboard at Otaru port

              OTARU, Japan - The U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, currently docked for its four-day stop at Otaru port in the northernmost main island of Hokkaido, welcomed the public aboard on Oct. 14 for a two-day public viewing. The public was allowed onboard from 9 a.m., an hour earlier than originally planned after about 2,300 people had lined up at the port early in the morning. The visitors walked along the 81,123-ton carrier's flight deck and through its aircraft hangars. Its fighter planes were a favorite attraction for photographers.
