Babe Ruth's life-size statue unveiled in Sendai
SENDAI, Japan - A life-size bronze statue of the legendary New York Yankees slugger Babe Ruth is unveiled Nov. 9 at the former Yagiyama ballpark where he hit his first home run during a Japan tour 68 years ago. Elementary school children unveiled the statue at the Yagiyama animal park in Sendai's Taihaku Ward to celebrate Ruth's memorable homer on Nov. 9, 1934 as a member of the major leaguers' exhibition series team, one year before his retirement.
