Officials cut ribbon to mark extension of Shinkansen service

HACHINOHE, Japan - Officials cut the ribbon at a ceremony at JR Hachinohe Station in Aomori Prefecture on Dec. 1 to mark the first departure of the bullet train Hayate bound for Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line. The route was extended to Hachinohe from the previous northernmost terminus in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture.
