NIIGATA, Japan - Five Japanese nationals abducted to North Korea in 1978 and now back in their homeland meet in Niigata on Dec. 18 for their first reunion since returning to their respective hometowns from Tokyo two months ago. Jenkins family leaves for U.S.

NARITA, Japan - Charles Jenkins (L), a former U.S. Army sergeant, his wife Hitomi Soga and their North Korean-born daughters leave Narita Airport, northeast of Tokyo, on June 14 for the United States to visit Jenkins' mother for the first time in some 40 years.

Jenkins family to leave for U.S.

Soga relieved to be able to live with reunited family

SADO, Japan - Hitomi Soga, one of the five Japanese abducted to North Korea in 1978 and repatriated in 2002, said Dec. 17 she feels relieved that she is now able to live with her family. She aired the view at a press conference in Sado, Niigata Prefecture.

TOKYO, Japan - U.S. Army deserter Charles Jenkins (L) leaves a Tokyo hospital Sept. 11 to surrender to the U.S. military at Camp Zama, a U.S. base near Tokyo. He was accompanied by his wife Hitomi Soga (R), whom he married in North Korea after she was abducted from Japan in 1978, and their two daughters.
