Setagaya OKs transsexual's election bid with new gender
TOKYO, Japan - Aya Kamikawa (L), who was born a male but now lives socially as a female due to gender identity disorder (GID), files her candidacy for the April 27 Setagaya Ward assembly election with the ward's election administration committee on April 20. Kamikawa is the first person in Japan to register as an election candidate with a gender different from that listed in her official family registry.
