'Stone-breaking' cherry tree blossoming
MORIOKA, Japan - Blossoms of what is known as the ''stone-breaking'' cherry tree are in full bloom April 22 in the compound of the Morioka District Court in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, in northern Japan. The 360-year-old tree, designated as a natural monument, is said to have grown from a crack made by lightning in the center of a gigantic block.
