High court orders gov't to redress radish sprout growers
TOKYO, Japan - Mamoru Fueki (R), representing the Japan kaiware (radish sprouts) association, speaks at a news conference in Tokyo on May 21 after the Tokyo High Court ordered the state to payy some 16.9 million yen in compensation to the growers of white radish sprouts for branding the vegetable as a likely cause of a fatal outbreak of food poisoning caused by the O-157 strain of E. coli bacteria in 1996.
