Kirin to sell 1 mil. yen whisky to mark 1953 coronation

TOKYO, Japan - Kirin Brewery Co. said May 29 it will sell six bottles of scotch whisky (photo) for 1 million yen each to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the coronation of British Queen Elizabeth II. Chivas Brothers Ltd. of Britain produced the whisky by blending mellowed malt of over 50 years, according to Kirin officials. The six bottles are among 255 bottles to be sold around the world.

TOKYO, Japan - Asahi Breweries Ltd. announced Sept. 26, 2014, that it will release 700 bottles of "The Nikka 40 Years Old" whisky, priced for 500,000 yen each, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of Nikka Whisky Distilling Co.

Suntory, Hombo whiskies rank top

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows Suntory Liquors Ltd.'s Hibiki 21 Years Old, produced in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan. Suntory and Hombo Shuzo Co. separately said on March 22, 2013, that their products won top prizes in the World Whiskies Awards 2013, a competition organized by British publication Whisky Magazine.

McDonald's begins using cogeneration system

YOKOHAMA, Japan - Photo shows a cogeneration system installed at one of McDonald's Co. (Japan) Ltd. outlets in Yokohama. The company said Nov. 14, 2001 it has begun tests with the system developed by Tokyo Gas Co. under which power and heat can be generated simultaneously, leading to lower energy costs. The system is expected to help one McDonald's shop save at least 1 million yen a year in electricity costs.
