Mitsubishi Electric develops high-resolution LCD

TOKYO, Japan - Mitsubishi Electric Corp. said Monday it has developed a liquid crystal display (LCD) (photo) that is three times as bright as existing high-resolution LCDs and 1.5 times better in color reproduction. The LCD, jointly developed with NEC-Mitsubishi Electric Visual Systems Corp., can be used for the printing and photographic industries as well as for medical purposes.

The Osaka-based electronics company said the same day it has developed a technology to make higher resolution images on organic electroluminescence display panels for smartphones and other electronics products. The technology involves use of indium-gallium-zinc oxide semiconductors, a new material which Sharp already employs to increase the picture definition on its mass-produced liquid crystal display panels.
