Japanese chef awarded prestigious Austrian culinary title
VIENNA, Austria - Shingo Kanda, a Tokyo native living in Austria, takes part in a national cooking examination held at the Tirol Chamber of Commerce on May 13. The 29-year-old Japanese chef made culinary history in Austria by becoming the first non-European ever to be awarded the respected title of master cook. The examination, reputedly one of the most difficult in the world, can only be taken once in a lifetime. Those who take the exam, focused on Austrian cuisine from the Hapsburg Court.
