TOKYO, Japan - Hitomi Soga (L), one of the five Japanese abductees repatriated from North Korea, leaves a Tokyo hotel May 23 for her hometown in Niigata Prefecture. Soga was unable to reunite with her American husband, Charles Jenkins, 64, and their two daughters because they declined to come to Japan.

TOKYO, Japan - Shigeru Yokota (file photo), who heads a group of Japanese families of victims of North Korea's abductions, plans to step down from the post due to waning physical strength. Yokota, 74, became the head of the Association of the Families of Victims Kidnapped by North Korea when it was formed on March 25, 1997, and has led the campaign, together with his wife Sakie, 71, to seek the return of abductees, including their daughter Megumi, who was abducted by North Korean agents in 1977 at the age of 13.

Film on Japanese girl abducted by N. Korea debuts in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - The critically acclaimed Canadian documentary telling the story of a Japanese girl, Megumi Yokota, kidnapped by North Korean agents who became a symbol of one of Japan's most thorny diplomatic issues, hit screens across Japan on Nov. 25. Police obtain arrest warrant for N. Korean woman for abducting Soga

NIIGATA, Japan - Japanese police obtained an arrest warrant on Nov. 2 for Kim Myong Suk (in portrait released by police) a North Korean woman believed to be in her 70s or 80s, on suspicion of her involvement in the 1978 abduction of Hitomi Soga from Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture to North Korea. The police said they will ask North Korea, via Japan's foreign ministry, to hand her over.
