Iizuka named as new head of group of abductees' kin

TOKYO, Japan - Shigeo Iizuka (R), vice chairman of the group of relatives of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea, speaks at a news conference at a Tokyo hotel Nov. 24 after he was named as the group's new leader to replace Shigeru Yokota (2nd from R). N. Korea made Soga teach Japanese to Army officers: Jenkins

SADO, Japan - U.S. Army deserter Charles Jenkins, who spent nearly four decades in North Korea and now lives in Japan,speaks during an interview with Kyodo News at a hotel in Sato, Niigata Prefecture, on Feb. 15. He said his wife Hitomi Soga, a repatriated Japanese abductee, was made to teach Japanese to young North Korean Army officers and others on three occasions between 1981 and 1982.

Chimura couple told police ex-agent Sin Guang Su taught them Korean

TOKYO, Japan - Two repatriated Japanese victims of abduction by North Korea have told police that Sin Guang Su (in file photo), a former North Korean agent who is on the international wanted list, was in charge of educating them in the North, police sources said Feb. 2. Yasushi and Fukie Chimura, both 50, have said to police investigators that Sin, 76, taught them Korean and other things at a facility in North Korea.

Abduction inquiry group to air messages on radio reaching N. Korea

OSAKA, Japan - Akihiro Arimoto, who had his daughter Keiko abducted by North Korea, speaks as his wife Kayoko listens at a meeting of the Investigation Commission on Missing Japanese Probably Related to North Korea held in Hirakata, Osaka Prefecture, on Oct. 22. Kazuhiro Araki, who heads the group, told the meeting it will air messages on shortwave radio, which reaches North Korea, at the end of October in an effort to collect more information about missing Japanese.

3 more, including 4-yr-old boy, listed as suspected abductees

TOKYO, Japan - Three more people have been added to the list of those who may have been kidnapped by North Korean agents, a private organization investigating the abduction issue said June 27. The photo released by the Investigation Commission on Missing Japanese Probably Related to North Korea shows Hiroshi Sasaki, who disappeared from Kanagawa Prefecture in April 1981 when he was 21.

Jenkins, Soga return to Japan after weeklong visit to U.S.

NARITA, Japan - Charles Jenkins, a former U.S. Army deserter who spent decades in North Korea, his Japanese wife Hitomi Soga (R), a repatriated victim of Pyongyang's abductions of Japanese nationals, and their family arrive at Narita airport, east of Tokyo, on June 22 after a weeklong visit to the United States. ''I had a great trip,'' Jenkins told reporters at the airport. ''We had a wonderful time, and I'm very happy to be back in Japan. I got homesick for Japan.''
