Japan to continue providing fuel for free to U.S. ships

TOKYO, Japan - The supply ship Tokiwa (L) of Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force is seen in operation to provide fuel to a U.S. Navy ship in a file photo taken in February 2003 in the Arabian Sea. Japan intends to continue providing fuel for free to U.S. naval ships in the Arabian Sea as part of its rear-area support for U.S.-led antiterrorism operations in the area despite a pact that makes it possible to charge fees, Japanese government sources said on Sept. 29.
