Japan, U.S. to seek accord on reducing Okinawa base burden
WASHINGTON, United States - Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura (L) and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell speak at a press conference after talks in Washington on Oct. 7. Machimura and Powell agreed to promote talks on the planned realignment of U.S. troops in Japan and hammer out an accord on how to reduce Okinawa's burden of hosting the bulk of the U.S. military presence.
