Drugmakers Dainippon, Sumitomo to merge in Oct. 2005

TOKYO, Japan - Dainippon Pharmaceutical Co. President Kenjiro Miyatake (L) and Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals Co. President Yasuo Okamoto shake hands at a press conference in Tokyo on Nov. 25. The two companies said they have reached a basic agreement to merge Oct. 1, 2005, creating a top-10 pharmaceutical maker in Japan in terms of prescription drug sales.
