Japan to dissolve in 2007 fund to compensate 'comfort women'

TOKYO, Japan - Former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, who serves as president of the Asian Women's Fund, tells reporters at a Tokyo hotel on Jan. 24 that the fund will be dissolved in March 2007. The fund was set up in 1995 at the initiative of the government to compensate women who were forced to act as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War II.
