Construction of world's longest tunnel on land completed
TOKYO, Japan - Central and local government officials walk inside the world's longest land tunnel in Aomori Prefecture on Feb. 27 after a ceremony to blast the last bedrock blocking the 26.5-kilometer railway tunnel. The Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency began constructing the tunnel that connects the Tohoku Shinkansen Line's Hachinohe Station and Shin-Aomori Station in August 1998.
