Postal bills narrowly clear lower house
TOKYO, Japan - House of Representatives members cast their votes on a set of bills to implement Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's top policy of privatizing the state-backed Japan Post on July 5. The bills cleared the chamber 233 to 228 amid a wider-than-expected revolt within the premier's own Liberal Democratic Party.
