Toshiba to market next-generation DVD players ahead of rivals

LAS VEGAS, United States - Toshiba Corp. said Dec. 4 it will market next-generation DVD players (in photo) based on its high definition format in North America in March, ahead of a Sony Corp.-led group promoting another type of format. Toshiba aims to win a competitive edge in the battle for the next-generation DVD market by debuting two high definition DVD players. The HD DVD format, developed by a Toshiba-led group, is competing with the Sony-led group's Blu-ray format.

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Marketing (Japan) Inc. said Aug. 4 it will release two digital high-definition plasma TV models with high-speed Internet access this fall. The 42-inch KDE-P42HZ1 (in photo) will be put on the market on Sept. 10 and the 50-inch KDE-P50HZ1 on Oct. 10 at suggested retail prices of 1.15 million yen and 1.4 million yen, respectively, the Sony Corp. group firm said.
