Japan, U.S. to work to prevent recurrence of banned beef shipment
TOKYO, Japan - J.B. Penn, U.S. undersecretary for farm and foreign agricultural services, speaks at a press conference at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo on Jan. 24 after a round of talks with Japanese foreign, farm and health ministry officials. Japan and the United States agreed to continue efforts to prevent a recurrence of the Jan. 20 incident in which a risk material for mad cow disease, banned in Japan, was discovered in a shipment of U.S. beef to Tokyo, a Japanese Foreign Ministry official said.
