Schieffer hopes Iwakuni understands U.S. base plan's strategic aims

OSAKA, Japan - U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer answers a question during a press conference in Osaka on Feb. 8. He voiced hope that citizens of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, will understand the strategic implications of the planned realignment of U.S. forces in Japan prior to the city's plebiscite on the issue slated for in March.
