Livedoor Representative Director Kumagai arrested

TOKYO, Japan - Fumito Kumagai (file photo), representative director of Livedoor Co., was arrested on Feb. 22 on suspicion of falsifying the company's financial figures for the business year through September 2004. Former Livedoor President Takafumi Horie and three others were served fresh warrants on the same suspicion.

Actress, film producer Mizunoe dies at 94

TOKYO, Japan - This file photo taken in 1976 shows actress-turned-film producer Takiko Mizunoe, who died of old age Nov. 16, 2009, in Kanagawa Prefecture, at age 94, sources close to her said Nov. 21. Mizunoe joined an opera company run by Shochiku Co. in the prewar era. High court upholds 2 1/2-yr term for Livedoor founder Horie

Yanase Honorary Chairman Jiro Yanase dies at 91

TOKYO, Japan -Jiro Yanase (file photo), honorary chairman of Yanase & Co., who pioneered the auto import business in Japan, died March 13 at a Tokyo hospital of pneumonia at age 91, his family said. Yanase, who was ran the imported car dealership for over half a century, was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in the United States in 2004.

Emperor may have bone loss from cancer therapy: officials

TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito (file photo) has shown signs of bone-thinning osteoporosis due to hormone therapy for prostate cancer, Imperial Household Agency officials said Feb. 25. The emperor, 74, underwent prostate cancer surgery in January 2003.
