Ozawa beats Kan to become new DPJ president
TOKYO, Japan - Seiji Maehara (L), Ichiro Ozawa (C) and Naoto Kan join hands at a Tokyo hotel on April 7 after Ozawa beat Kan in the Democratic Party of Japan's presidential election to replace Maehara. The election was called after Maehara stepped down over a scandal in which the DPJ attacked Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Tsutomu Takebe on the basis of what turned out to be a fabricated e-mail.
