Japan-U.S. bases accord draws anger from Okinawa, elsewhere

TOKYO, Japan - Katsusuke Ihara, mayor of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, speaks with reporters after visiting the Defense Agency in Tokyo on May 2. He said that his city, which would host carrier-borne aircraft from Atsugi base near Tokyo under a just-announced Japan-U.S. agreement on realignment of the U.S. military presence in Japan, cannot accept the accord.
