Returning to Japan is 'one of the choices': Fujimori

SANTIAGO, Chile - Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori said in an interview with Kyodo News in Santiago on May 20 that returning to live in Japan again using his dual citizenship is ''one of the choices'' available to him if Peruvian authorities continue to pursue criminal charges against him. Fujimori was released on bail May 18 as court hearings continue in Santiago over Peru's request for his extradition.

      TOKYO, Japan - About 50 people from Japan, Peru and five other countries march Jan. 16 to the house in Tokyo where deposed Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori is staying, to hand him a letter urging him to return home as well as an economy-class air ticket to Peru. The demonstrators from the Japanese civic organization Peace Boat were unable to hand over the ticket, with police in front of the house in Tokyo's Ota Ward maintaining nobody was home. The house belongs to Japanese writer Ayako Sono.

        TOKYO, Japan - A group of Japanese-Peruvians staged a demonstration Dec. 10 in Tokyo's busy Shibuya district, demanding deposed Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori go home and answer to allegations about human rights abuses under his administration. The Japanese-Peruvians, along with Japanese members of a citizens group calling for democratic reforms in Peru, chanted ''Fujimori, go home.'' Fujimori, who is staying at the Tokyo home of novelist Ayako Sono, refuses to return to Peru, where authorities want him to face trial over allegations that he amassed illegal funds while in office.
