Yasukuni visit should not be issue in LDP race: ex-premier Mori
TOKYO, Japan - Former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori speaks at a press conference at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo on May 22. He said the controversy over whether Japan's prime minister should visit Tokyo's war-related Yasukuni Shrine should not be an issue in the upcoming race to choose the governing Liberal Democratic Party's president, and so Japan's new premier. ''Prime Minister (Junichiro Koizumi) has said his visits derive from his personal beliefs,'' Mori said. ''If so, we shouldn't politicize the issue.''
