Narita airport holds ceremony over extending shorter runway
NARITA, Japan - Transport minister Kazuo Kitagawa (C) and Chiba Gov. Akiko Domoto (L) pose for a photo during a ceremony held at Narita International Airport on Sept. 15 to mark the start of work to extend the shorter of its two runways to 2,500 meters. Work on the 2,180-meter runway has been on hold since the 2002 opening due in part to landowners refusing to give up land needed for the extension.
