Centenarians in Japan number record 28,395
FUKUOKA, Japan - Yone Minagawa, from the town of Fukuchi, Fukuoka Prefecture, the oldest person in Japan at 113, smiles as she receives flowers at a home for the aged at her native town on Sept. 15. As Japan greets the Respect-for-the Aged Day on Sept. 18, centenarians across the country number a record 28,395, comprising 4,150 men and 24,245 women.
