TOKYO, Japan - Paramedics carry out Yuji Takeshita, a member of a gang affiliated with the Kyokuto-kai underworld syndicate, from an apartment in Machida, Tokyo, on April 21. Takeshita shot himself in the head after holing up in the apartment and firing shots from a window. The stand-off ended after about 15 hours when a squad for police officers fired tear gas and burst in.

Man fires 9 shots from apartment after shooting gangster to death

TOKYO, Japan - Police officers seal off a road that leads to an apartment in Machida, Tokyo where a man armed with a handgun barricaded himself on April 20. He had allegedly shot a gangster to death before fleeing into the apartment and fired nine shots out into the open from the apartment. One of the shots hit a police car, but otherwise no one was hurt and no hostages appear to have been taken, the police said.
