Volunteers scrub off graffiti at America Mura in Osaka

OSAKA, Japan - A group of volunteers are busily scrubbing off and painting over graffiti in America Mura (American Village), a center of youth culture in central Osaka, on May 26. Graffiti, which had been increasing in the area for the past 10 years, is a constant headache for the local community. On May 5, the police arrested three men who allegedly painted graffiti on the walls and shutters of local shops. Volunteers scrubbed off some 1,000 graffiti drawings during the summer last year.
