Sapporo, Kochi courts reject war orphans' damages claims

SAPPORO, Japan - The Sapporo District Court in session on June 15. The court issued a ruling rejecting a damages lawsuit filed by a group of war-displaced Japanese from China asking for state compensation over their plight in Japan. The Kochi District Court also delivered a similar ruling on the same day. A total of 2,200 war-displaced Japanese have filed 15 damages suits at various district courts in Japan since 2001. The Tokyo District Court on Sept. 26, 2013, ordered Apple to pay 330 million yen in damages to Japanese inventor Norihiko Saito for a patent infringement involving the U.S. firm's iPod music player. The patent that Saito's company applied for in 1998 covers technology for the Click Wheel controller that Apple adopted for the music player in Japan in 2004, the presiding judge said in a ruling.
