Big crowd turns up for Ishikawa at Japan Amateur Championship

NAGOYA, Japan - More than 1,000 spectators turn up at the Aichi Country Club in Nagoya on July 3 to watch the freshly minted teenage golf star Ryo Ishikawa play in the Japan Amateur Championship. The 15-year-old Ishikawa, nicknamed the Smiling Prince, became an instant celebrity after he won the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup in May, the youngest winner on the men's professional tour. Ishikawa, who bounced in the Amateur Championship preliminaries last year, placed eighth in the opening round on a rainy day watched by 1,036 fans, the largest ever crowd in the championship's 100-year history.
