Veteran Fukuda elected LDP chief to be Japan's new leader after Abe
TOKYO, Japan - Yasuo Fukuda (R) attends a topknot cutting ceremony for retired yokozuna Takanohana while serving as chief Cabinet secretary in June 2003. Fukuda won the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's presidential election on Sept. 23 to succeed embattled Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
