South Korea apologizes over Kim Dae Jung abduction in 1973

TOKYO, Japan - Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura (R) meets with South Korean Ambassador to Japan Yu Myung Hwan at the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo on Oct. 30. Yu expressed ''regret'' over the South Korean government's involvement in the abduction of then opposition leader Kim Dae Jung from a Tokyo hotel in 1973. ''We take the South Korean government's expression of regret over its violation of Japanese sovereignty as an apology,'' Komura told reporters afterwards.
