71-year-old Japanese climber joins 'seven summiter' club
NAGOYA, Japan - A file photo shows Tomiyasu Ishikawa, a 71-year-old climber from Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, who reached the summit of Mt. Vinson Massif, the tallest mountain in Antarctica, on Jan. 21, his family said on Jan. 27. By reaching the summit of the 4,897-meter mountain, the chairman of a mountaineering association in Aichi Prefecture is believed to have become the oldest ''seven summiter,'' having conquered the tallest peaks on the world's seven continents.
