Union abandons meeting after hotel refuses venue
TOKYO, Japan - Yasuo Morikoshi, president of the Japan Teachers Union, speaks at a news conference in Tokyo on Feb. 1 about the cancellation of the union's general meeting. The union originally planned to hold the meeting at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Minato Ward from Feb. 2 to 4 but the hotel, despite court orders, has refused to honor a contract to provide a venue on fear of protests by rightist groups.
