Base-hosting governors petition for changes in U.S. forces pact
TOKYO, Japan - Kanagawa Gov. Shigefumi Matsuzawa (C) and Okinawa Gov. Hirokazu Nakaima (R) meet with Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba (L) at the Defense Ministry on March 11. Matsuzawa, Nakaima and other members of the governors' liaison council representing 14 prefectures hosting U.S. military bases in Japan petitioned Ishiba, as well as Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura, for a revision of the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement in light of a series of crimes allegedly committed by U.S. service personnel.
