25-yen gas tax to be reinstated Thursday

TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda (R) and members of his Cabinet stand up in acknowledgement on the front bench of the House of Representatives after the lower house overrode dissent in the opposition-controlled House of Councillors and passed a tax code bill to reinstate a 25-yen per liter gasoline tax. The tax, which expired March 31, will take effect May 1.
