Fukuda says no immediate decision in sight on sales tax

TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda speaks during a news conference at his office in Tokyo on June 23. He expressed reservations about deciding anytime soon whether to raise the consumption tax rate from the current 5 percent, saying the issue should be considered while gauging the outcome of government efforts to cut wasteful expenditure and monitoring economic trends.
