Japanese female student inks pro baseball contract

KOBE, Japan - High school pitcher Eri Yoshida, 16, smiles during a news conference in Kobe on Dec. 2 after an announcement that she has joined the Kobe 9 Cruise baseball team in the Kansai independent league to be inaugurated next April. Yoshida is the first woman to be granted the opportunity of playing professional baseball alongside male players in Japan.
