Renovated migration center opens in Kobe
KOBE, Japan - The Kobe Center for Overseas Migration and Cultural Interaction opened in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, on June 3 after the renovation of a building used by Japanese emigrants in the 20th century, marking the centennial of the departure from the western Japan port city of the first ship carrying Japanese emigrants to Brazil. The center is now aimed at helping foreign residents in Japan. It will also put on display rooms restored to their state at the time of the emigrations as well as farm equipment used by the Japanese migrants.
