Giant salamander found walking along road in Kyoto

KYOTO, Japan - Photo shows a 105-centimeter-long giant salamander a motorist found walking along a road along the Kamogawa River in Kyoto on June 30. The salamander was brought to a police station and kept there for several hours in a tub filled with water before being released upstream.

1 person dies after jumping into river

OSAKA, Japan - A man dives into the Dotombori River in central Osaka in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2015 amid the New Year festivities. A man (not the person in this photo) carrying the passport of an 18-year-old traveler from South Korea died after jumping into the river, the police said. A total of about 60 men and women jumped into the river.
