Consumer Affairs Agency launched amid doubts over personnel changes
TOKYO, Japan - Shunichi Uchida, chief of the newly established Consumer Affairs Agency, speaks during his first press conference in Tokyo after being appointed to the post on Sept. 1, amid uncertainty as the incoming government led by the Democratic Party of Japan may seek a change in the agency's top personnel. The government agency aimed at better protecting consumers was launched the same day, marking the first establishment of a new administrative organ since the 1971 creation of the Environment Agency.
