Toyota chief calls for once-in-a-century shakeup

TOKYO, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda delivers a speech at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo on Oct. 2, 2009. Toyoda said a ''once-in-a-century shakeup'' is necessary to free the battered auto industry from oil dependence and promised to bring the company back to its roots in pursuing a customer-first policy.

President Masahiro Inoue attends a press conference in Tokyo on April 8, 2024, as the company releases a new management policy following a scandal over improper safety testing. Daihatsu said its parent company Toyota Motor Corp. will be in charge of development and safety approval for some of the models Daihatsu had handled while it will focus on its mainstay minivehicle business.
