SHIRAKAWA, Japan - Columns of water are discharged by firefighters over traditional thatched houses at the World Cultural Heritage site of Shirakawa-go in the central Japan prefecture of Gifu during an annual drill on Nov. 8, 2009. Shirakawa-go is known for its houses constructed in the ''gassho-zukuri'' architectural style.
