Unified college entrance exams begin across Japan amid flu alert
TOKYO, Japan - Applicants sit for the first day of unified college entrance examinations across Japan on Jan. 16, 2010, as the two-day event began at 725 venues put on high influenza alert. The number of applicants increased 9,387 from last year to 553,368, according to the National Center for University Entrance Examinations, an independent administrative agency.
